 Zak Starkey
Any one catch the Super Bowl half time show? I didn't, but I heard the buzz and looked it up this morning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6Io05fTLSghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCqgtb3N ... re=relatedNotice anything interesting about Zak's cymbals? Yes, they look like RAF Coloursounds (an idea I've been hoping Paiste would try)... but they are... Zillies!!! The performance is O.K. Not really the energy that the Who is known for. I heard scuttlebutt that Roger may have been lip syncing - didn't notice that, play back on my machine was a little choppy. I think I had too many windows open at the time.

OK............Did you see Ringo's kid playing with the Who last night?> , how about that clear DW set he and, Loved that kit....and those Red/ White and Blue cymbals>?For a second the camera showed the top of one and it was Zildjian, I bet they were custom made just for the show last night, all three were monsters, I think the smallest one was 20"...I would sure like to know what series they were........I was hoping that Pete T was going to smash his guitar on his amp, rats...guess they grew up...LOL!!

Two threads about the same thing now, so I'm double posting. Here's Zildjian's news on the matter: http://zildjian.com/EN-US/news/newsDeta ... ewsID=1956

 Re: Zak Starkey
yeah, i was watching this late last night (i think it was 2:30am when the half time show started)... unfortunately, something went wrong and sound and video were not synchronized... freakin' espn... anyway, i really like this setup he played. this who logo/raf idea is great! and the stage was like... wow! i'm dissapointed zak didn't blow up his set at the end of the concert or at least pete destroyed his guitar or something, that would be awesome...

 Re: Zak Starkey
Is he trying to act like Moon, or does he always play that way?

 Re: The Who on S-Bowl
I think Zak was trying to act like Moon, in the way he hit his cymbals, mannerisms, thinner sticks, etc. The kit was certainly laid out like Moon's with three 14" rack toms and the cymbal sizes & placements.
Sucks that at the SB they only have time to do medleys and not full versions. And what's with the extra guitar and keyboard? That ain't the 'Oo!!

 Re: Zak Starkey
Whatever those Zil's were they were thin and wobbly as can be. On the tube they sounded good.

 Re: Zak Starkey
Zak looked and played great. He's the perfect drummer for them.
I thought Roger was lip synching at least part of the time, same with Pete's playing. In fact, a lot of it looked like it was done to backing tracks…or the mix synch between the audio & video was off…
John "Rabbit" Bundrick (sp?) has been the unofficial 5th member of the Who since way back in at least the Quadrophenia days. He's always toured with them covering the keyboard parts.
Pete needed to keep his shirt tucked in, or else needed to work out more…
Sort of the Who, but not quite…what ever happened to "Hope I die before I get old"???

 Re: Zak Starkey
Just saw these cymbals on the Sabian forum. Gotta say, they don't look very nice.
And, I managed to catch the superbowl here in Sweden, too! Though it was in the middle of the night, so I couldn't finish it...

The a/v sync was indeed off.

The a/v sync was indeed off. That seems to be a continual problem with this digital television that we've switched to. I makes everyone look like they are syncing. Considering the switch over was delayed nearly a decade, you'd think they would have gotten it right. Back to Zak. He did strike me as being a bit laid back - at least as compared to Keith Moon at his finest. Almost like Keith with a little Ringo mixed in. As far as his gear goes (1996): two 20" K Dark Crash Thins (switched to two 22" K Crash Ride (Custom)) 19" K Dark Crash Thin 22" K Crash / Ride 14" New Beat Hi-Hat ( http://www.kathyszaksite.com/gear.html) Another listing (I assume more recent)... 14" Zil A Mastersound Hi-Hats 22" Zil K Crash Ride(x2) 22" Zil K Ride ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zak_Starkey <== yeah, I know) So they were all pretty big. Although it would have been great to see Zak on Prems and GBs.
