Review: Just received a mint pair of X heavy 602 14" hats, I am blown away with them, I have had three pairs of 602 heavies, the X's are very close in sound to the heavies, you know, its the Jeff Porcaro hat sound, the X's are about as heavy as a pair of sound creation dark heavies, or sabian rock hats, the 602 heavies I had were beautiful but did not have near as much volume as the X's, you had to mic them in a amplified setting, the X's might hold their own with no mics, the H's were a little faster response and a little more subtle, the X's play a little better to me and they sound great all through their range, from soft to very loud. I would pick the X's over the H's if I could only have 1. The X's seem to have a slightly darker wash which surprised me, not like a SC Dark Heavy but a little darker than expected, over all a real gem to find, I will get some pictures posted in my gallery this week and maybee a sound file in January, as there will be a mobile recording studio at my home.

Review: BEEFY! These really surprised me at how responsive they were weighing 1280g over 1270g. This has a strong "chick" when played with a stick, and sloshy and loud when played partially open. I was disappointed in the foot pedal sound. There was so little volume and definition, at least in comparison to the stick sound. These are pretty deeply lathed in comparison to my only other 602 hats- Sound Edges.
I'd like to note that although Paiste made a model with this same name, they were not nearly as heavy as these.
