Review: These could be defined as "the Hi-Hat sound you hear in your head when you play imaginary drums." The chick is tight and crisp, and the closed sound is "airy", balanced, warm and clear. The open sound is loud, defined and crashy, with a certain warmth about them. Fantastic pair of hi hats that could be used in any genre.

Review: 2002 14" Medium Hi-Hat Bottom / 2002 14" Sound Edge Hi-Hat Top: Since I have only the bottom Medium hat, I tried this out with my top Sound Edge Hat, which is also "medium" in weight according to Paiste.com. This combo was a little warmer than when using Sound Edge Top & Bottom, and the "chick" wasn't quite as high pitched. When hit with the stick, the "chick" also seemed to last just slightly longer than the Sound Edge pair, which has a really quick decay. When using the foot pedal, the Medium Bottom/SE Top wasn't as loud as the SE pair, but was comparable. Overall it seems this pair lack a "full" sort of sound, but honestly, I wasn't expecting that they would. I was playing along with some Rush tracks, and these seemed to hold their own with Neil Peart's hi-hat sound. "Subdivisions" 16th notes were precise, I didn't have to press overly hard on the foot pedal to "dampen" the sound.

I plan on trying out a Giant Beat HH Top over this Medium Hat Bottom in the future, and I expect it to be warmer and a little darker than these results!
