Paiste 2002
2002 cymbals are made from our CuSn8
bronze, an alloy Paiste first used in 1963. These instruments work well
in live and studio environments that require high energy levels without
sacrificing warmth, musicality or precision. 2002's are ideal for
drummers and percussionists who enjoy expressing a significant portion
of their sound with cymbal colors.
They can best be described as bright, warm, heavy
and decidedly energetic with powerful projection characteristics. The
original 2002 sound evolved during the 60's and 70's, when numerous
Paiste players used them to create the era's rich Rock, Jazz, Fusion
and Country heritage.
Today's 2002 retains the core elements of the
original classics, which remain essentially unchanged since their
inception in 1971. The 2002 series also includes heavier models which
were added recently to satisfy contemporary needs for elevated power
and volume.

Originally developed and introduced in 1980 as the RUDE series, these
cymbals now belong to the 2002 family. Designed for maximum performance
in high volume and live situations, 2002 RUDE cymbals feature a heavy
mid-range frequency mix. Their raw, lively character make them an
obvious choice for contemporary bands with minimal instrumentation, as
their sound tends to fill the overall musical soundscape.

Effects
- Splash (8", 10", 11", 12")
- A very thin, warm splash, somewhat soft in nature. Sound spectrum opens nicely, even with a light stroke.
- Power Splash (10", 12", 14")
- These cymbals have an earthy, full, splashy attack. They are louder than regular splashes, perfect for heavy playing.
- China (14", 16", 18", 20", 22")
- An
exotic, powerful cymbal with a traditionally shaped bell. Sound is
bright, trashy with great projection. Nice sound variety when played in
different areas of the cymbal.
- Novo China (18", 20")
- Novo
China's round bell faces in the opposite direction, allowing access to
the bell and the "underside" at the same time, for simultaneous bell,
crash and ride playing . A bright china which projects well in loud
situations.
- RUDE Splash (8", 10", 12")
- Quite
thick, giving the effect of a "Mini-Crash". Full, high, short,
pronounced sound. Very good for loud situations and interesting for
percussionists.
- RUDE China (18", 20")
- Truly
"rude" sounding China cymbal. Raw sound, short decay with great
projection. The perfect china for extreme volume situations.
Hi-Hats
- Medium Hi-Hat (13", 14")
- An
all purpose hi-hat that has a warm, soft quality, with a solid chick
and defined stick sound. Good for light to moderate volume playing.
- Sound Edge Hi-Hat (13", 14", 15")
- A
classic. The unique rippled bottom prevents air lock, giving an overall
sharp chick and splashy open sound. Very clear projection.
- Heavy Hi-Hat (13", 14")
- Heavier
than the Medium, with a brighter, stronger sound. Higher in pitch, with
a tighter stick sound and great projection. For heavy volume situations.
- Extra Heavy Hi-Hat (13", 14", 15")
- One
step further than Heavy hi-hat, with even more projection and volume.
Excellent for high volume situations requiring controllability.
- RUDE Hi-Hat (13", 14", 15")
- Raw,
dry and funky with pronounced stick and trashy open-closed sound. Cuts
well in loud situations while having a versatile use, depending on the
player's touch.
- RUDE Sound Edge Hi-Hat (13", 14", 15")
- Raw,
funky characteristics with a brighter, less dry sound due to the
rippled bottom. A perfect Sound Edge hi-hat for heavy players.
Crashes
- Crash (13", 14", 15", 16", 17", 18", 19", 20")
- Bright
and explosive with a full bodied sound that carries well. Very dynamic
and full, with immediate response. A good all purpose crash.
- Medium (16", 17", 18", 20")
- A
bit heavier than the crash, very balanced, full and rich sounding. Nice
ride sound in larger sizes. Very versatile and works well with louder
playing.
- Power Crash (16", 17", 18", 19", 20")
- A
heavy, strong crash with long sustain. A higher pitch that projects
very well in high volume situations. Great for heavy players.
- RUDE Crash/Ride (14", 16", 17", 18", 19")
- Raw
and funky with excellent cutting power. Serves two functions: crash
playing from 14"-19", yet 18" and 19" can be heavy enough for riding.
Rides
- Flat Ride (20")
- A
warm, mellow ride with a sweet ping and quiet wash. Due to missing
bell, it will not build up even when played forcefully. Projects well.
- Ride (18", 20", 22", 24")
- A
versatile ride with a penetrating ping and a warm, lively overall
sound. Strong bell, wide frequency range, the Ride works well for light
to medium volume situations.
- Power Ride (20", 22")
- A
heavier cymbal with a powerful ping and very lively overtones. The bell
is strong and penetrating, a great cymbal for loud playing.
- Power Bell Ride (20", 22")
- Bright
and lively with a very powerful, percussive bell. A very clear ping
sound, separated from the wash. Perfect for the heaviest players.
- RUDE Ride/Crash (20", 22")
- "Ride"
is the primary function, but these are also incredibly strong crashes.
High pitched, raw and metallic, great for creating a "wash" of sound
for louder music passages.
- RUDE Power Ride (20")
- The
definitive Power Ride, with more "metal" in the ping and less wash than
the RUDE Ride/Crash. An absolutely piercing bell. This cymbal will cut
through anything.
